Paternity Test

A DNA paternity test determines whether a man could be the biological father of a child. Everyone inherits their DNA (genetic material) from their biological parents. A DNA paternity test compares a child's DNA pattern with an alleged father's DNA to check for evidence inheritance. A DNA Paternity test is the most definitive, widely accepted, indisputable proof of a biological relationship.

Results of a DNA paternity test yields either an exclusion (the alleged father is not the biological father), or an inclusion (the alleged father is considered the biological father). For a standard paternity test, Paternity Express guarantees at least a 99.99% probability of paternity for inclusions or 100% certainty of exclusion.

Unlike private (in-home) tests, where tested parties collect their own samples at their convenience, Paternity Express' "legal" paternity test uses the COC ("Chain-of-Custody") method of collection to ensure our clients receive accurate, legally defensible results.

Test Donors In a standard DNA paternity test, donors (tested parties) include a child, the alleged father, and the mother (a trio). We will start the testing process with a $150 non-refundable deposit which is partial payment towards the full cost of the test.

Although not absolutely necessary, the mother's participation in the paternity test helps to exclude one-half of the child's DNA, leaving the other half for comparison with the alleged father's DNA. Paternity Express can perform a paternity test without mother's participation (motherless test) however; this involves additional analysis for which you are not charged and results are conclusive whether or not the mother participates. Motherless tests are guaranteed to have at least a 99.9% probability of paternity for inclusions and 100% for exclusion. Additional children or alleged fathers if needed may be tested, however, an additional DNA testing and analysis fee is charged for each additional tested party.

Sample Collection
A painless buccal (cheek) swab method is used to collect samples. Paternity Express has a vast network of collection sites globally which guarantees our clients a center which is convenient for them.

There is an in-center sample collection fee per donor in each paternity test case (1 child 1 mother, and 1 alleged father) which is payable to Paternity Express. This fee covers the cost of coordinating your case; including sample collection, appointment coordination, and shipping. Because there are additional requirements imposed by the New York State Department of Health, collection fees for appointments made in New York vary. For an additional cost, Paternity Express can also dispatch trained technicians who are available to come to your home or designated locale 7 days per week from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Chain of Custody Procedure
Paternity Express technicians collect samples using the documenting COC (Chain-of-Custody) method which ensures your results will be accepted by courts and/or other government agencies.

Paternity Test
For clients who opt to find out paternity of their unborn child, a prenatal test is available. This test requires special procedures and must be performed by an OB-GYN. Alternatively, a test may be performed on the umbilical cord blood (taken at birth) and is less expensive than the prenatal test, which requires special procedures performed by an OB-GYN.

Paternity Express can also test samples when the father is unavailable, missing, or deceased by first performing a viability test on any unusual samples we are given.

Paternity Express can also provide a private (self-collected samples) Paternity DNA test for people who have no need for the results to be admissible in a legal forum such as a court or a government agency, but who nonetheless is seeking peace of mind or closure to a troubling question. Please note that "private" tests are not allowed by the State of New York.
