Grand-Parentage Test
When an alleged father is deceased or unavailable to provide his samples, a grand parentage test or an avuncular test also known as a genetic reconstruction DNA test may be performed.
A grand parentage test is considered the better relationship test in determining paternity of a child when the alleged father is deceased or otherwise unavailable to provide his sample for the DNA Test. An ideal testing scenario is a test which includes the mother, child and paternal grandparents (mother and father of the alleged father). When both of the alleged father’s parents participate, the alleged father’s DNA profile can then be reconstructed; comparing that alleged father’s reconstructed profile against the child’s DNA profile yield results that are as accurate as a paternity test. The strength of the genetic evidence decreases each time a person (e.g., a grandparent or mother) is removed from the equation; hence, it is best to test all 4 individuals. Fees for this test are based on the number of donor participants being tested; and results become available 3-5 business days after our labs receive the samples.
